The Interchain Foundation and BlockScience are pleased to announce a partnership to bring robust complex systems engineering to the Cosmos stack.

To date, the Interchain Foundation has made significant investments in the correctness of core Cosmos components, including formal verification and model-based testing of the Tendermint consensus protocol and light client, and more recently the Inter-blockchain communication protocol.

BlockScience is the premier mathematical engineering firm in the blockchain industry, authoring the open source cadCAD software suite and applying rigorous data-driven methodologies to the design and analysis of complex systems involving distributed human and machine agents.

Our first quarter of funding proposals closed submissions on February 14th, 2021. We reviewed the applications internally and compiled the proposals recommended by the Board of Management. These were included with comments from the Technical Advisory Board and submitted to the Foundation Council for approval. The time spent since then was on finalizing service agreements and getting the required signatures in place.

The following proposals have now been finalized and work has begun by the respective teams. This comes in tandem with the Q1 Financial Transparency Report. Applications for Q2 2021 closed May 14th. …

Blockchains are Cities

Blockchains are virtual cities: districts of economic and cultural exchange, where common infrastructure gives rise to a mutual sense of place and a shared social fabric.

Bitcoin is a city. The original application-specific chain. Despite its minimal feature set, Bitcoin is surrounded by a rich ecosystem of clients, exchanges, and layer-2s. Likewise, Ethereum is a sprawling metropolis with a rapidly expanding financial district, so much so that the cost of living is pushing people to the suburbs.

There are plenty of small cities that serve their residents perfectly well, but many next generation blockchains are…
